Life Happens

When I first started this blog, many moons ago, my intention was to post at least 2-3 times a week, but....life happens. This past year could best be described as being bi-polar with high highs and low lows.

October 2013 - our daughter became engaged to a wonderful young man that we absolutely adore. They set a date of June 28 and the fun began! We decided to do everything ourselves from decorations to preparing food for 300 at the reception. What was I thinking??

It truly was a Christ-centered, lovely wedding. We are so blessed!

December 2013 - As the wedding preparations were beginning, we received a phone call that no parent ever wants to receive. Our son had been involved in a very serious motorcycle accident. He was in ICU at a hospital 9.5 hours away. Because it was near the holidays, all the flights were booked and we ended up driving. That had to be the longest day of my life. His injuries were substantial. His back was broken in 4 places, every rib on his right side was either broken or shattered, his liver was lacerated, his lung was punctured, his sternum was bruised. The next two weeks were a roller coaster... surgery, chest tubes, ventilator, alarms sounding constantly. But our Father is faithful and watched over him every step of the way! There was no injury to the brain, no paralysis, and while he will always have to live with the effects of his injuries, he is alive and walking! I tried to post a video of his first steps but couldn't get it to upload so you will have to settle for a picture of the first time he stood up :)

January 2014 - While we were still 9.5 hours away from home at the hospital with our son, our 6th grandchild decided to make her debut. 9 lb 1 oz of absolute beauty and joy!

When our son was released from the hospital, we were finally able to go meet this precious child. Two miracles from the One who loves us with an everlasting love. Had it not been for the grace of our Almighty Father this picture would never have taken place. So very blessed!

June 2014 - Two days after the wedding, we received another phone call that our son was having emergency surgery to remove all the hardware (2 rods, 9 screws) that had previously been installed following his accident. He had developed a staph infection and the surgery couldn't be postponed. He did very well through the surgery and the healing process was much smoother than before.

October 2014 - My dear Aunt Kate finally met her Savior face to face at the age of 102. This had been her prayer and desire for many years. What a testimony she was to all who knew her. While we miss her, I rejoice for her. Oh, the stories she told me as I was growing up. I'll have to share some of them someday. This picture was made on her birthday 3 months prior to her death.

What does 2015 hold for us? We never know what tomorrow holds but we know Who holds tomorrow! May God bless each of you!

  1. I haven't visited in so long! I remember stopping by several times before, but as you said, things get so busy. You had a busy year with a lot of hard things, but you pulled through by the Grace of God...

I am glad to hear of your son's healing.
